Real Madrid v Eintracht Frankfurt -Real Madrid looked in top form midway through the season as they beat scrappy German club Eintracht Frankfurt in the 2022 UEFA Super Cup to win 2-0 with goals from David Alaba and Karim Benzema.

The win was Madrid’s fifth UEFA Super Cup all-time, coming up against last year’s Champions League winners and Europa League champions. That brings Los Blancos level with Barcelona and AC Milan at the top of the competition’s winners’ table.

The Super Cup win is also Carlo Ancelotti’s sixth in a glittering career for the Italian, with four of them as a coach and two as a player.

The Spanish giants looked ready for the campaign ahead, battling Frankfurt’s fierce pressing and creating chances up front while reducing their danger at the back. David Alaba opened the scoring in the first half with an easy corner kick and Benzema opened the scoring of his season with a second half strike.

Frankfurt had few chances as Daichi Kamada went down without his best chance on 14 minutes. After that, they generally looked toothless in the absence of playmaker Filip Kostic.

Casemiro was the man of the game, marauding all over the pitch to stop Frankfurt’s attack and also create some threat up front. The Brazilian headed in Alaba’s first goal and hit the crossbar around the hour mark.

Real Madrid open their La Liga season this weekend with an away game at newly promoted Almeria on Sunday.
